Historic Wagon Road Trail

In 1893 the K&S Wagon Road was completed just in time for the mining boom. Soon the wagons, stage coaches, horseback riders, backpackers and pack trains braved the harsh conditions of the mountains seeking riches in Kaslo. In 1993 the community of Kaslo and the Rail to Trail Society restored this 20 km route as a recreation trail, bringing the history back to life.

Join us for a trip back in time to the days of the pioneer miner. Remnants of this rich mining history along with spectacular mountain scenery await the observant visitor.

This tour starts with a shuttle to the small mining site of Retallack at the height of the pass between Kaslo and New Denver. For a warm up we will explore a small, gentle hiking trail through an Old Growth forest. This gives us a glimpse of the landscape that the pioneers would have faced. Then on to the historic Wagon road trail back to Kaslo

The Wagon Road is a beginner cross-country trail; it is relatively flat to gentle downhill. The double wide trail doesn’t require much technical skill but still offers something for the whole family to enjoy.
